Introduction

Welcome.

First off I do not claim to be an expert in this family history search, and realise I make mistakes so if you spot one or would like to challenge my ideas please feel free I shall not be offended.

I know I do all the things we are not suppose to do - I am not organized, I jump from one family to another, I go forward and sideways and most importantly I am guilty of making ASSUMPTIONS - if I was rich and free to go out and about to record offices etc. I would do it the proper way finding certificates etc. but I am not so have to make do with what I can.

I have put on here a lot of the ways I use Internet sites - this is so my dear dear sister (hello Sheila) can follow what I have done and see if she can get the same results as myself. As she does not have access to Ancestry.co.uk I will just post findings from the census for her to see.

I always like to acknowledge people for passing on information - this I shall do just using christian names (I am paranoid about identity fraud). Also no information about living people in such a way as they could be identified. So on that note the time period being studied is loosely before World War 1.

I am afraid I do not have a "tree" anywhere on the Internet. My research is an ongoing although slow affair - I must admit I am less interested in dates etc. and more interested in the lives of my ancestors so I frequently am led astray by social history. Another area of knowledge I am slowly slowly building up is geography. So you may find many ramblings and not relevant writings on here feel free to skip read them if you are not interested.

Why a blog? well it is very easy to go back and update information. I can more easily put down explanations and I can easily erase. I am not very good at computers. (In fact I am frightened of them.) Some of the information I shall post is of Garnett families who we are not related to (or more accurately can find no evidence to link us yet) so that they can be eliminated from our line.

As many of the christian names are used often for example Thomas, I shall put the year of birth after to make clear which one it is.

Sometimes I may duplicate information in different parts of the blog, this is because the only thing I dislike about a blog is it is difficult to jump about from one part to another when it gets large.
